Preference

A preference is a leaning toward one option, behavior, condition, object, experience, or outcome over another. Preference can also show up as ordinary or personal choices, choices that feel like your own.

Preferences are often treated as personal, natural, and self-explanatory.

MNKY Math treats preference as something worth examining.

A preference may come from temperament, personality, memory, comfort, identity, habit, culture, family, repeated exposure, reward, avoidance, convenience, fear, social pressure, or system design.

Some preferences may feel deeply personal.
Some may have been inherited.
Some may have been adopted.

Some may have been trained by the systems a person lives inside, works inside, buys from, scrolls through, or depends on. Preferences can often form from automaticity, and systems can be very good at producing automaticity — repetition that shapes behavior.

Some preferences may also be shaped by interior systems such as attention, memory, emotion, nervous system response, habit, fatigue, reward sensitivity, and biological signals that make some choices feel easier, safer, more satisfying, or more urgent than others.

This does not make preference fake.

It makes preference evidence. More than just a personal statement. A signal from the interaction between external conditions and interior systems.

The question is not only: What do I prefer?
